Ananta is an unexpectedly bold hybrid — an open-world RPG rendered in an unmistakable anime aesthetic that riffs on the feel of Grand Theft Auto V, the street-level drama of Yakuza, the acrobatic skyline traversal of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and the tech-savvy thrills of Watch Dogs, all stitched together into one stylized package.
Built by Naked Rain and published by NetEase, the game puts you in the shoes of a four-person ADP task force charged with policing Nova City. Each member brings distinct abilities to the team: the Captain leads the charge in street fights and undercover ops, another operative hacks systems with a Watch Dogs–like finesse, and a third swings through the skyline using tendril-like appendages, at times facing off against colossal, mech-like adversaries.
The announcement trailer switches perspectives between playable characters much like GTA V does: a night-shift female officer (Richie) patrolling and making arrests, a masked hacker (Seymour) breaching networks, and a bunny-eared marksman (Taffy) providing precision cover during a tense hostage rescue.
Gameplay appears to embrace open-world staples — commandeering vehicles, selecting from a diverse arsenal (everything from firearms to tennis rackets via a weapon wheel), and indulging in the kind of chaotic freedom players expect from sandbox titles. Beyond law enforcement, Nova City offers a variety of side activities: basketball, beach outings, skydiving, and even a tongue-in-cheek Power Slap–style minigame.
NetEase has faced accusations over similarities to other titles in the past, but here the studio seems to have cherry-picked familiar open-world mechanics and reframed them within a distinct anime-driven identity.
The nearly eight-minute reveal leans into satire and larger-than-life set pieces — imagine a Saints Row–style send-up filtered through anime sensibilities. If the controls and systems match the presentation, Ananta could serve as one of the closest anime-flavored alternatives to GTA until the next major entries arrive.
As of its announcement, no release date has been confirmed. Ananta is reported to be in development for Android, iOS, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. Below is the game’s announcement trailer for reference.
