Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition & Free Update – Announcement Trailer – YouTube

It helps that these same classic titles also appear through the standard Switch Online apps, which lessens the surprise factor. Still, there’s something special about stumbling across and playing a retro game inside Animal Crossing itself. Nintendo is also adding a selection of real-world Nintendo curiosities to collect — items like the Ultra Hand, Ultra Machine and Love Tester — toys and gadgets that have made cameo appearances across other Nintendo games.
From the quick shots in the trailer and the glimpses of cartridge artwork, the likely lineup appears to be:
- Famicom – Clu Clu Land
- NES – Ice Climber
- Game Boy – Dr. Mario
- Super Famicom – Panel de Pon
- Super NES – F-Zero
The one unknown is the Famicom Disk System entry — there’s no gameplay shown and the disk itself remains obscured inside the unit. I’m personally hoping for Japan-only curiosities such as The Mysterious Murasame Castle; with most of the revealed selections being compact, arcade-style experiences, it would be nice to see at least one deeper, more substantial title included.
Those pixels may be chunky, but the best NES games still stand the test of time.
