Nintendo's Virtual Boy

  • Virtual Boy Wario Land
  • Galactic Pinball
  • Red Alarm
  • Teleroboxer
  • Mario’s Tennis
  • Jack Bros.
  • Vertical Force
  • Mario Clash
  • Golf
  • 3D Tetris
  • Virtual Bowling
  • Innsmouth no Yakata
  • Space Invaders Virtual Collection
  • V-Tetris

The last four entries were originally Japan-only releases. Notably absent is Nester’s Funky Bowling — a first-party title featuring the Nintendo Power mascot — which suggests Nintendo is still selective about which corners of its past it’s willing to revisit.

It’s remarkable to see Nintendo bring back the Virtual Boy. Launched in Japan and the US in 1995 and discontinued within a year, the console’s stereoscopic 3D display earned a reputation for causing eye strain and headaches and became a recurring punchline in retro gaming circles.

Despite that, dedicated retro fans have long celebrated several Virtual Boy releases. Games like Virtual Boy Wario Land and Jack Bros. have gained cult status — Jack Bros. in particular is remembered as an early Megami Tensei–adjacent release outside Japan, and physical copies can command four-figure prices among collectors. Making these titles more accessible on modern hardware gives players a cheaper way to experience them and serves as a reminder that the Virtual Boy did have a few genuine highlights.

Here are all the upcoming Switch 2 games you need to know about.
