Taisiya Kalinina, acclaimed for her roles in “One Small Night Secret” and “How to Tame a Fox,” has been officially cast as Sonya Rostova in the highly anticipated cinematic rendition of Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece, “War and Peace.” The announcement was made by the film’s director, Sarik Andreasyan.
“Sonya (Sofya Alexandrovna) is the embodiment of kindness, compassion, and self-sacrifice—virtues that, unfortunately, never secured her personal happiness. The brilliant Taisiya Kalinina takes on the mantle of Sonya. ‘War and Peace’ arrives in all theaters on February 18,” Andreasyan shared via social media (original phrasing preserved — Ed. note).
The production ensemble already features Polina Gukhman (as Natasha Rostova), alongside Stanislav Bondarenko, Alexander Metelkin, and Matvey Lykov. The screenplay was adapted for the screen by Aleksey Gravitsky, known for his work on “The Tale of Tsar Saltan.”
