14 Years Ago, Commander Shepard’s Death in Mass Effect 3 Helped EA Become the “Worst Company in America”—Ex-Manager is Still Bitter Over the Vote Results
Electronic Arts hasn’t always enjoyed the best reputation among the gaming community.
Recently, Peter Moore sat down with The Game Business to reflect on his tenure as a high-ranking executive at Electronic Arts.
During his years heading the sports division, the company faced significant public backlash. In both 2012 and 2013, EA was infamously voted the “Worst Company in America” by the readers of The Consumerist:
In the interview, Moore glossed over several controversial incidents from that era that undoubtedly fueled the public’s decision to hand EA that dubious title.
For instance, players were outraged by the mandatory “always-online” requirement for the SimCity reboot—a failure that Moore himself eventually addressed in a 2013 statement. Furthermore, the aggressive push to force the Origin client onto users only deepened the community’s resentment.
