Fortnite’s Next Season to Feature Crossovers With Sonic, Mega Man, Persona, and Kingdom Hearts

Epic Games is gearing up to launch Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4: Override on August 20, bringing an unprecedented celebration of classic video game heritage directly to the Island. The newly unveiled premiere trailer reveals a revamped landscape and Battle Pass fundamentally shaped by some of gaming’s most celebrated franchises.
Leading the roster is none other than Sonic the Hedgehog, adapted into a full-scale playable outfit tailored to the standard Battle Royale proportions. The island itself now incorporates iconic environmental landmarks inspired by Green Hill Zone, complete with momentum-fueled, gravity-defying loops that allow characters like Jonesy to reach supersonic speeds and sprint entirely upside down. Sonic is not arriving alone; his quintessential cast—including Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles, Shadow, and the villainous Dr. Eggman—are set to join the fray.

The Sega speedster merely scratches the surface of this season’s ambitions. The teaser treats fans to rapid-fire appearances from an all-star gaming pantheon, showcasing Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Persona 5 protagonist Joker, alongside dynamic hazards like colossal Tetris blocks tumbling from the sky. Promotional key art further confirms the arrival of Pac-Man and Kingdom Hearts protagonist Sora. To complement these newcomers, veteran gaming icons—such as Master Chief, Geralt of Rivia, Ryu, and Lara Croft—are slated to rotate back through the Item Shop.
Game-Changing Abilities and Iconic Armaments
Beyond cosmetic nostalgia, Season 4 introduces substantial gameplay innovations via dynamic back-bling modules. Equipping specific character gear grants distinct passive and active abilities—such as blistering sprint velocities from Sonic’s kit or aerial propulsion with Tails’ gear. The seasonal arsenal is equally inventive, debuting Mega Man’s signature Mega Buster Arm Cannon alongside a retro-themed 8-bit shotgun that tallies your damage output as an arcade score counter.
Capping off the cinematic preview, the enigmatic lore antagonist Geno makes a menacing reappearance, signaling an epic, high-stakes boss encounter waiting for squads on the Island.
Fortnite Chapter 7, Season 4: Override goes live on August 20 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, iOS, and Android platforms.
