Tribute to Hayden Panettiere

Acclaimed actor Hayden Panettiere, widely celebrated for her memorable performances in television hits such as Heroes and Nashville, alongside her iconic portrayal of Kairi in the Kingdom Hearts video game series, has passed away at the age of 36.

Panettiere cultivated an accomplished career across both television and cinema. She achieved widespread acclaim as the resilient Claire Bennet in the sci-fi phenomenon Heroes and its follow-up Heroes Reborn, and captivated audiences as ambitious country artist Juliette Barnes throughout the long-running drama Nashville. Her diverse film repertoire spanned memorable roles in classic titles such as Remember the Titans, Scream 4, I Love You, Beth Cooper, and Sleepwalker.

Within the interactive entertainment space, Panettiere crafted an enduring legacy. She served as the definitive original English voice for Kairi across multiple landmark entries in Square Enix’s beloved franchise, lending her voice to the original Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance—a role that was later assumed by Alyson Stoner for Kingdom Hearts III.

Beyond the realm of Disney and Square Enix, she delivered a standout performance in Supermassive Games’ acclaimed 2015 interactive survival-horror title Until Dawn (as well as its 2024 visual overhaul). Panettiere provided both extensive motion capture and her likeness to portray one of the story’s central protagonists, Samantha “Sam” Giddings.

We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Hayden Panettiere’s family, friends, and admirers during this difficult time.
