The ENHYPEN community is currently grappling with the shocking revelation that HEESEUNG has officially departed from the group. Since the news broke, fans have been vocal in their search for the specific motivations behind his exit.
On Tuesday, March 10, the group’s management agency, BELIFT LAB, announced that the 24-year-old artist would be transitioning away from the boy band to launch a solo career. While he remains signed to the label—a move HEESEUNG personally validated through a poignant, handwritten letter to ENGENEs on Weverse—the announcement sparked immediate debate. Many followers questioned why he couldn’t maintain his group status while exploring solo projects, citing the successful “group-plus-solo” models utilized by members of global icons like BTS and BLACKPINK.
Addressing the growing speculation, BELIFT provided a statement to Billboard the following day, explaining their logic. “We ultimately determined that dedicating his full energy to a solo path, rather than balancing activities within the group, would be the most fulfilling and productive route for both ENHYPEN and HEESEUNG himself,” the label noted.
This explanation echoed the label’s earlier social media posts regarding the change. Management emphasized that through extensive internal dialogue about the future of the team and individual aspirations, it became evident that HEESEUNG possessed a “distinct musical vision” that required his undivided attention. The decision was framed as a gesture of respect toward his artistic autonomy.
Despite the official reasoning, the news has been an emotional blow for the ENGENE fandom. Social media platforms were flooded with messages of heartbreak. One fan expressed profound sadness, while another pointed to the suddenness of the shift, noting that HEESEUNG had mentioned upcoming European plans just days prior to the announcement.
Since their debut in 2020, ENHYPEN—consisting of JUNGWON, JAY, JAKE, SUNGHOON, SUNOO, NI-KI, and formerly HEESEUNG—has enjoyed a meteoric rise. Earlier this year, they reached the pinnacle of the Billboard Top Artists chart and saw their project THE SIN : VANISH debut at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.
In his parting message, HEESEUNG reflected on his tenure with the band with deep appreciation. He described the last six years as a series of “overwhelmingly meaningful” experiences. He revealed that he had been quietly developing personal creative projects for some time, stating, “I had so many things I wanted to share with you, but I was careful never to let my personal ambitions overshadow the goals of the team.”
