About the “Contract” with its creators

Release of the “Contract” add-on drew media attention to the people who took part in its creation. We have selected the most important and interesting points from recent interviews.

The release was accompanied by FTW portal conversation with Rob Nelson, one of the main people at Rockstar North. According to the “rock star”, the company intends to make such missions that could be completed both alone and as part of a team.

In terms of plot, this is the best addition that came out for “Online”.

However, one can argue with this statement. Perhaps for GTA Online the script is the best, but on the whole it seems quite simple, as well as the setting of tasks. What really pulls this component out is the guest star characters. During the screensavers, you rejoice at the very appearance of the legendary Dr. Dre and his entourage in the person of Jimmy Iovine (head of Interscope Records, on which Dre, Eminem, and many others release his music), Anderson Paak and DJ Pooh. By the way, the latter has a long joint history with Rockstar – he also helped with GTA: San Andreas, and has now become a link between the creators of “Online” and Dre.

Dr. Dre was a full-fledged contributor to The Contract. He selected music that would fit certain missions, he sent his own. The work on the episodes with the recording was carried out as follows: R * employees recreated a studio convenient for the musician right on the motion capture site, he put on a mocap suit, went on stage and did his job. Scene with Paak was an improvisation – the “rockstar” wanted to capture the creative process, to give the players the opportunity to feel that they are next to the hip-hop icons on their weekdays. And, I must admit, the sense of presence was one hundred percent successful.

The developers themselves did not know when the “Contract” would be ready: “in the summer, in the winter or later.” And judging by user guesses, the release date was indeed constantly changing. One of the possible is December 7th, not December 15th.

It all came down to the fact that the studio wanted Dre not only to become a character on “Online”, but to bring his new music into it, which is not so easy, because the musician rarely pleases with new products. His semi-mythical album Detox, which seems to never be released, is even mentioned by Lamar in one of the cutscenes. The musical component of the update made a splash, since in the game six new singles sounded as world premieres at once, to the creation of which the Doctor attracted other world stars:

With these songs played at a certain point in the game, Rockstar tried to achieve the same effect as at the moment of crossing the border in Red dead redemption or shootouts at the airport in Max payne 3when the perception is greatly influenced by music.

In a few days IGN contacted to Sean “Solo” Fontenot, who played Franklin, with a request to share his impressions of working on the expansion. For the actor, it came as a big surprise when R * offered to return to his previous role. He doubted whether he would be able to do it after almost ten years, but he says that Slink Johnson (Lamar in the game) helps him a lot to get used to it. Solo is happy to work with Dr. Dre. Twenty years ago, the movie “Moika” was released by DJ Pooh, starring Dre and Snoop Dogg, as well as Eminem, Xzibit, Shaquille O’Neill and other iconic figures. Fontenot refers to his character in that film as Lamar’s counterpart. The actor admits that he slept badly until the release of “Contract” – he had the same feeling before the release. Gta 5…

It was only after the world saw our work that I was able to relax and unwind.

In the interviews, they could not ignore the issue of Franklin’s development as a character. Sean says that when working on the “five” he did not understand the character of the hero so well, wondering why he does not act like Lamar or Trevor, apparently because his character is slightly different from F. But now, having worked on the sequel the story of the hero, understands him better.

I think Franklin learned a lot from Michael and Trevor. I see a lot from Lester in Franklin.

In conclusion, we can say that, with the exception of some details, Rockstar Games turned out to be a really great addition, which includes elements of the story DLC, which the players were so eager for after completing the “five”. And, as the dialogues hint to us, Dre will not remain the only VIP contract of our joint agency with Franklin, which means that he will continue to be …
