Developers at Xbox studios are pleased that their games are now appearing on PlayStation, Bloomberg reports. Ending exclusivity has broadened both revenue and the player base.
Over the past year, Xbox released four titles on PlayStation and later confirmed that it may publish any of its projects on competing platforms. The move benefits both management and studios: Microsoft earns more, and its games sometimes top the PS Store’s best-seller charts.
Numerous development studios are enthusiastic about the chance to release their games on PlayStation. This shift became noticeable roughly a year ago, when Xbox evolved into a genuine multiplatform publisher; previously, it published games only on Xbox and PC.
Abandoning exclusivity was a response to Microsoft’s difficult financial situation: Game Pass lowers the short-term commercial value of individual titles, and Xbox hardware is produced at a loss. Releasing games on additional platforms helps increase profits and moves Xbox closer to its 30% margin target.
