Crafting a narrative of this magnitude requires genuine stakes, and it’s encouraging to see that Blizzard isn’t shying away from difficult story beats. For a game as enduring as WoW, evolution requires embracing change, even when it feels permanent. While losing major characters can be painful, it is precisely this sense of vulnerability that makes the ongoing journey through Azeroth feel meaningful.

Rest assured, long-standing plot threads haven’t been forgotten, even if they take years to re-emerge. “Sometimes Chekhov’s Gun—or in our case, Chekhov’s Sword—will remain idle for several expansions before its true purpose is revealed,” added game director Ion Hazzikostas, referencing the massive blade plunged into Silithus during 2016’s Legion expansion. “It’s something players should prepare themselves for.”

It’s undoubtedly a fascinating era for the community as the saga unfolds. Midnight is currently scheduled to arrive on March 2.

Additionally, Blizzard has clarified that they have no plans to dismantle the World of Warcraft modding community, stating that their intention was never to “stamp out” the addon ecosystem despite recent UI adjustments.
