Winter Will Come in Summer: War Thunder Publisher Reveals the Future of Extraction Shooter Active Matter

Don’t expect to see a snow-covered landscape in the immediate future.

Gaijin Network, the publisher widely recognized for the success of War Thunder, is overseeing the release of Active Matter. This gritty extraction shooter is currently being brought to life by the developers at Matter Team.

Recently, the development team took to the game’s Steam community hub to address burning questions and outline their upcoming roadmap:

  • The developers are “weighing the options” regarding the implementation of a ranked matchmaking system.
  • While individual notifications regarding reports against suspicious players won’t be sent, the studio is considering publishing anonymized statistics detailing the total number of banned users.
  • There are no plans for a traditional standalone “campaign.” Instead, the game’s rich lore and backstory will be revealed organically through environmental notes, item descriptions, and specialized missions—a narrative style the developers currently prefer.

  • A winter-themed map is indeed in development, but players will need to be patient: “creating a winter map is in our plans, and we hope to release it by the summer.”
  • Improvements to the questing system are underway, including the introduction of “sequential quest chains” designed to let players conclude major events over the course of several raids on the same map.

Although Active Matter has a Steam page, it hasn’t officially launched there yet. Currently, interested players can access the game via its dedicated website, where various purchase editions are available.
