William Shatner & Joe Jonas Lean Into Self-Awareness on ‘Clouds of Guilt’ Collab: Listen

William Shatner is prepared to tell the story of his spectacular life, but not in an autobiography — through song. On Friday (Aug. 27), Shatner surprise released his newest single, “Clouds of Guilt” featuring Joe Jonas, a longtime fan of the Star Trek actor. Shatner also announced the details of his forthcoming autobiographical album, Bill, along with the single’s release.

“Clouds of Guilt” sees Shatner leaning into self-awareness and musing about the instances in his life where he’s regretted or felt awful about his actions, resulting in him feeling less than thrilled with himself. Jonas assists Shatner for the track’s hook, guessing that the enduring shame the actor feels is an unshakeable part of his DNA.

Though it may feel like an unlikely pairing, Jonas is a big fan of Shatner, and is releasing the actor’s autobiographical album through his new label, Let’s Get It! Records, an imprint of Republic Records. “I’ve been a fan of Bill’s for as long as I can remember. He’s iconic. To not only be featured on one of his songs that mean so much to him, but to also get to be a label partner on the entire project, it’s an honor,” Jonas said in a statement.

Bill blends long-form autobiographical poetry and prose, music, spoken word performance art, and philosophical exploration,” Shatner explained in a statement. “Toggling between passion and despair, reflection and yearning, this collection explores my life journey during a pivotal and chilling moment of history.”

The spoken-word album also features another bold-faced name: country star Brad Paisley. The “Remind Me” crooner joins the actor on “So Far From the Moon,” which is inspired by Shatner’s experience listening to the 1969 moon landing, and also arrived Friday. “It’s so interesting to hear what effect the moon landing had on Bill, because every generation of astronauts since those days credit him with inspiration,” Paisley said in the release. “I’m so proud to be on this track.”

Bill is slated for a Sept. 24 release via Let’s Get It! Records.
