Will Valve Abandon Loot Boxes in Counter-Strike 2? Item Drop System Update Sparks Steam Market Price Spike

A number of investors have already begun aggressive acquisitions of high-value assets.

Indications suggest that Valve is overhaulng the reward systems in Counter-Strike 2. Speculation is mounting within the community that the developer may be planning a gradual phase-out of traditional “loot boxes” (weapon cases).

Attention was drawn to a recent update on the Telegram channel of the blogger “Raiz,” where data indicates that developers have effectively disabled the drop rate for rare cases:

Valve has quietly disabled or severely nerfed the drop rate for rare cases in weekly rewards. According to telemetry from farming tools, rare cases have ceased dropping since Wednesday. It is possible the developers are targeting case-farming operations, or this could simply be a technical glitch or a temporary measure.

As a result, market prices have skyrocketed for high-tier cases like “Operation Bravo,” “Prisma,” “Gamma,” and several others.
