Will CD Projekt RED Be Canceled After Larian? The Witcher 4 Developers Confirm Using AI

A growing number of developers are integrating cutting-edge technologies into their creative workflows.

When Larian Studios began sharing details about the next Divinity installment, they revealed that AI-assisted tools are being utilized during development. This disclosure sparked a wave of criticism from both the online gaming community and various industry professionals.

However, Larian is far from the only major studio embracing these advancements. For instance, CD Projekt RED also addressed the implementation of artificial intelligence during a recent dialogue with their investors.

At the time, one investor raised a specific inquiry:

“Can you imagine a scenario in the near future where AI tools allow you to reduce your workforce without compromising the development of your upcoming projects?”

Michał Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CDPR, confirmed the use of AI but emphasized that it is employed specifically to enhance efficiency, rather than to replace human developers:

“[…] Regarding workforce reduction through AI—I don’t see that happening. We utilize AI primarily to drive productivity, and that is where we see the most profound benefits. These gains are real and measurable, but it’s not a situation where AI can simply ‘sit down and build a game.’ That is our philosophy. It doesn’t mean AI is useless; it just means it won’t be responsible for creating The Witcher 5, 6, or any similar project.”
