Ubisoft blames players for new games struggling to find an audience

The company also disclosed a decline in revenues.

Ubisoft’s UK division said in a recent report that consumers “play fewer games,” but those they do choose “are played for longer,” which makes it increasingly difficult for new single-player releases to compete and achieve strong sales.

The document states that the traditional model of selling a complete game for £50–£60 as a one-time purchase is fading. It is being replaced by multi-title subscriptions, long-lived games-as-a-service, free-to-play models, and cloud streaming — all offering players more convenient and appealing ways to access content.

Players are engaging with fewer titles but spending more time in them; as a result, with few exceptions, many new games struggle to distinguish themselves and achieve the sales they once did. The market has grown more volatile, and the prospects for any individual title are now less predictable.
