Ubisoft “accidentally” released Anno 117 Pax Romana with AI-generated art

Employ modern technologies throughout development.

Anno 117: Pax Romana was released recently, and players are gradually exploring its content. Some users have voiced dissatisfaction upon discovering AI-generated artwork in the launch build.

Developers noted on Steam that they make use of AI tools in their workflow, while stressing that “the final product reflects the work of our team and our creative vision.”

This image was a placeholder [temporary stub], but it accidentally slipped through during our review. The final artwork will replace this image in the forthcoming 1.3 patch. As Anno 117: Pax Romana is our most ambitious Anno title to date, we assembled the largest art team in the franchise’s history. To help the project reach its intended scale, artists used AI tools for iteration, prototyping, and research. Every asset players will see in the final release reflects the team’s craftsmanship, artistic judgment, and creative vision.
