The controversy is particularly pointed because other mature titles, such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, exist on Nintendo hardware with their sexual content and nudity fully intact. The developers at Adhoc shared the community’s surprise regarding this discrepancy.
“Like many of you, we presumed that since games with similar mature themes are allowed on the platform, Dispatch would follow suit,” the statement continues. “As the porting process unfolded, it became evident that this wasn’t the case. We requested a storefront disclaimer to notify potential buyers of the differences, but we take full responsibility for where that disclaimer ended up.”
The studio admitted to a clerical error where the content warning was placed in the “Disclaimer” field instead of the “About The Game” section, making it difficult for users to find. “It wasn’t an attempt to hide the changes, just a poorly placed label that we’ve since corrected on the North American storefronts. We’ve also implemented a pre-purchase warning to ensure transparency,” Adhoc added.
Moving forward, the studio is collaborating with Nintendo to find a resolution. While they cannot yet provide a definitive list of changes, they are optimistic about restoring at least some of the removed content. “We are confident that a future update will address part of the censorship,” the team concluded, though they warned that the console submission process means the patch is “weeks, not days” away.
