Destiny 2: The Witch Queen brought with it many updates and changes, and one of the largest was the Void subclass rework, referred to as Void 3.0. Void 3.0 fundamentally changed the way that you can interact with the subclass — it made it similar to the Stasis system by bringing in new keywords, Fragments, and Aspects.
In this Destiny 2 guide, we break down the changes to Warlocks with the Void 3.0 update and recommend two builds to make the most of your new abilities.
Keywords
Void 3.0 introduced several new keywords to explain the buffs and debuffs that come with it. These keywords are usually highlighted in the UI, but they’re not very helpful if you don’t know their exact definitions.
Here’s what each means when you see them:
- Suppress: Targets cannot activate abilities or movement options; PvE combatants are disoriented.
- Weaken: Targets take increased damage, have movement slowed, and are disoriented.
- Volatile: Targets will explode in a Void detonation when they take additional damage and/ or die.
- Invisibility: You vanish from sight and do not constantly appear on radar.
- Overshield: You gain a protective barrier that goes on top of your existing health; this barrier reduces incoming damage in PvE.
- Devour: Upon activation, you are restored to full health and gain grenade energy. When you get a kill while it is activated, you are restored to full health, you gain grenade energy, and the Devour timer is extended.
Supers
Void Warlocks have three different Super options. There are no missing Supers from the pre-3.0 days and no new Supers either.
- Nova Bomb: Cataclysm: Nova Bomb travels slowly and seeks targets. Detonations shatter into smaller seeker projectiles.
- Nova Bomb: Vortex: Nova Bomb creates a singularity that pulls targets inward and continually damages those trapped inside.
- Nova Warp: You can Teleport a short distance and unleash a Void eruption.
Melee
Void 3.0 has only one melee option, but it’s new to Void 3.0.
- Pocket Singularity: Launch an unstable ball of Void energy that detonates when it nears a target, pushing them away from the blast and making them volatile.
Aspects
Like all 3.0 subclasses, Void 3.0 Warlocks have multiple Aspects that fundamentally change how the class works. Each Aspect also determines how many Fragments you can equip.
- Feed the Void (grants 2 Fragment slots): Defeat a target with a Void ability to activate Devour.
- Chaos Accelerant (grants 1 Fragment slots): Hold the grenade button to overcharge your grenade, making it deadlier and more effective. Vortex Grenades have increased size and duration. Axion Bolts create an additional seeker. Scatter Grenades have submunitions track to nearby targets. Magnetic Grenades release a short-range Void blast.
- Child of the Old Gods (grants 2 Fragment slots): Cast rift to create a Void Soul. When you damage a target with your weapon, your Void Soul flies to them and drains them, doing damage and weakening them. When a target is being drained, you are granted grenade and melee energy (if running a healing rift) or health (if running empowering rift). Defeating a target who is being drained by your Void Soul grants class ability energy.
Fragments
Fragments are class agnostic, and all Void 3.0 classes will use the same ones. You can buy any Fragments you don’t have access to from Ikora in the Tower. Here’s a table of all of them:
Example builds
Void 3.0 provides Warlocks with some unique builds in both PvE and PvP. Below we’ll break down an example for each, which you can use as a starting point to test out new play styles for your Warlock.
PvE
- Super: Nova Bomb: Vortex
- Grenade: Vortex Grenade
- Aspect 1: Feed the Void
- Aspect 2: Child of the Old Gods
- Fragment 1: Echo of Provision
- Fragment 2: Echo of Exchange
- Fragment 3: Echo of Undermining
- Fragment 4: Echo of Persistence
This build focuses on ability uptime, with your grenades and melee attacks chaining into each other. This stacks with Devour to get more grenades, and Echo of Persistence increases the Devour timer. This build works great with the Exotic helmet Eye of Another World to increase the grenade uptime even more.
PvP
- Super: Nova Bomb: Cataclysm
- Grenade: Axion Bolt
- Aspect 1: Chaos Accelerant
- Aspect 2: Child of the Old Gods
- Fragment 1: Echo of Dilation
- Fragment 2: Echo of Leeching
- Fragment 3: Echo of Remnants
This build focuses on the neutral game (when you’re not using your Super) as well as the Axion Bolt grenade. Echo of Dilation and Echo of Leeching are great neutral-game Fragments, and both pair very well with an exotic like Ophidian Aspects because of its buffs to your weapon handling and reload. You want to use your Axion Bolts often here, as the increase to the amount of bolts from Chaos Accelerant and greatly increased tracking distance from Echo of Remnants makes them very powerful.
