Toby Fox thinks Deltarune Chapter 5 is only a few months away from release

Development of Deltarune Chapter 5 is progressing much faster than originally anticipated.

Toby Fox, the visionary creator behind Undertale and Deltarune, has provided fresh insights into the production status of his hit RPG’s fifth installment. In his latest official newsletter, Fox revealed that momentum has exceeded expectations, hinting that the launch of Deltarune Chapter 5 could be just a few months away.

According to Fox, the development team has nearly finalized the core production phases and is preparing to enter the home stretch—debugging and localization. Within a few months, the majority of the staff is expected to shift their focus toward the development of Chapter 6.

“If I were to give a realistic assessment, I think from our current position to the game’s actual release is only a matter of a few months. It sounds wild, especially considering that just six months ago only Chapters 1 and 2 were available, but in a few months, most of the team will likely already be pivoting to Chapter 6…”

Chapter 5 is slated to conclude the current narrative cycle, bridging the events of all previous entries. Because of this significance, many fans had expressed concern that development might stretch on for years, mirroring the series’ historically long gaps.

For context, the interval between the first two chapters spanned three years (2018 to 2021), while Chapters 3 and 4 arrived another four years later, in 2025. Although Fox originally estimated that Chapter 5 wouldn’t debut until late 2026, the updated timeline looks significantly more optimistic for eager players.
