Take-Two Shuts Down GTA 5 Multiplayer Mod Alt:V, Rival to Rockstar-Owned FiveM

  • “This is a difficult statement to release,” shared alt:V developer Vadzz via the project’s Discord community. “We have spent nine years building alt:V, evolving it from a passion project into a global multiplayer platform used by thousands of players and hundreds of server owners. We’ve dedicated years to overcoming technical hurdles and pioneering new features.”

According to the statement, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have designated FiveM as the sole authorized platform for GTAV multiplayer modifications under their Platform License Agreement (PLA). Consequently, at the request of Take-Two, alt:V will undergo a phased shutdown scheduled for completion in 2026.

The closure process begins on March 2, when alt:V will stop accepting new community servers and cease public access to its server toolkit. “We urge all current server operators to begin planning their migration to FiveM as soon as possible,” Vadzz stated.

By May 4, the public server listings will be permanently disabled. Users are advised to ensure they have active access to the Server Manager before this date to maintain server functionality and access essential transition tools.

The final deadline is July 6, 2026, when alt:V will reach its official end-of-support. By this time, all community servers must have completed their migration, as the game client, server toolkit, and backend infrastructure will be permanently shut down and removed from availability.

“This news is undeniably tough for our community of developers and players,” Vadzz acknowledged. “With FiveM established as the official Rockstar platform for modded content, we have negotiated extra time to facilitate this transition. We remain committed to making the migration as seamless as possible. We are incredibly grateful for the time and passion everyone invested in alt:V—thank you for being part of this incredible journey.”

This development follows a recent update to the Creator Platform License Agreement for Cfx.re on January 12. It appears this legal adjustment was the precursor to the enforcement action against third-party competitors. The news represents a major shift for the GTA V modding landscape as the community consolidates under Rockstar’s official umbrella.

This transition occurs nearly a year after a former FiveM developer expressed concerns regarding the longevity of the Rockstar-owned modding platform.
