Super Mario Bros. Wonder Evolves: Switch 2 Upgrade and Bellabel Park Expansion Set for March
Originally debuting as a masterpiece for the Nintendo Switch in 2023, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is preparing for a significant generational leap. While a Switch 2 enhancement had been previously teased, Nintendo has finally unveiled specific details regarding its features and launch window. This comprehensive upgrade and content expansion is scheduled to arrive in just over two months, on March 26.
The centerpiece of the update is Bellabel Park, which hosts “Attraction Central”—a new hub dedicated to cooperative and competitive minigames. These activities are categorized into local and wireless/online modes. Notably, the local attractions support GameShare, allowing a single Switch 2 owner to enjoy the content with nearby players on either original Switch or Switch 2 hardware. The online experience is tailored for individual screens, letting every participant progress at their own pace.
A newly released trailer also highlighted “Camp Central,” the base of operations for the Toad Brigade Training Camp. These levels serve as challenge-based remixes of stages from the main campaign, unlocking as you progress through the story. Players will be tasked with unique objectives, such as clearing out specific enemy counts, racing against a clock to collect coins, or completing platforming gauntlets while maintaining a constant state of invincibility.
The tranquility of Bellabel Park is short-lived, however, as the Koopalings have scattered across the game’s various worlds to cause chaos. Players must track down these villainous turtles, a mission aided by an Explorer Toad stationed within each kingdom. Amidst this conflict, the trailer also confirmed that Rosalina will join the playable roster. She possesses the same fundamental abilities as the core cast and is fully compatible with all game modes.
To ensure accessibility for younger players, Nintendo is introducing the “Co-Star Luma.” This invincible companion can fly freely through a level to collect coins and dispatch enemies with a spin attack, making it an ideal choice for participants who may find traditional platforming challenging. Exclusive to the Switch 2 version, Luma even supports mouse controls for added ease of use. Additionally, a new Assist Mode provides damage immunity and an automatic “flying flower” rescue mechanic to prevent falling into pits.
