NBA Street enthusiasts finally have reason to celebrate. Developer Play by Play has announced NBA The Run — a 3-on-3 online title due in 2026 that returns players to the gritty asphalt courts.
Following the success of NBA 2K26, which became the best-selling game in the United States in 2025, fans called for the comeback of fast-paced street basketball. NBA The Run promises brisk matches, flashy maneuvers, and a highly cinematic atmosphere. Players will visit iconic outdoor courts and face both real NBA stars and fictional “street legends” — each with distinct abilities and colorful personalities.
The developers stress that defense will be just as compelling as offense: reflexes, precision, and timing will be essential for blocks, steals, slides, and physical contests. On offense, players can pull off double alley-oops, step-back three-pointers, and eye-catching dunks.
“We want every second of a match to be emotionally charged — no pauses, no lag, just pure, seamless action,” the studio said.
The game will include rollback netcode, cross-platform multiplayer, and knockout tournaments — short, intense matches with randomized rule modifiers like Dunkfest or Speed Round. You can play solo, controlling the entire team, or compete in three-player squads.
