Slay the Spire broke its own concurrent player record seven years after release

A massive 90% discount has propelled Slay the Spire to a record-breaking influx of new players.

Nearly seven years after its debut, the definitive deck-building roguelike Slay the Spire has shattered its concurrent player record on Steam. According to metrics from SteamDB, the number of simultaneous users peaked at over 57,000 on December 27. For context, this significantly eclipses the previous high of 33,000 players, a milestone established back in 2018 while the project was still in Early Access.

The primary catalyst for this sudden resurgence is the 2025 Steam Winter Sale. Slay the Spire is currently available at its lowest price point in history—offering a staggering 90% discount through January 5.

Having officially launched in 2019, Slay the Spire has since become a cornerstone of its genre, widely credited with the modern popularization of card-based roguelikes. Despite its age, the title continues to demonstrate remarkable staying power, further fueled by the mounting anticipation for Slay the Spire 2, which is slated for an Early Access release in March 2026.
