Netmarble is set to revitalize the graphics and expand the narrative of its flagship MMORPG next year.
Netmarble has officially unveiled the 2026 development roadmap for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. In a developer update shared via Steam, the team reflected on the milestones achieved throughout 2025 while outlining the transformative changes scheduled to arrive in the coming months.
A major priority for the studio is elevating the game’s visual fidelity. This initiative includes overhauled cinematics and significant graphical enhancements across specific regions, most notably in the prologue and the desolate lands “Beyond the Wall.” Additionally, the developers are refining visual effects for combat and enemy takedowns. The team stated that these improvements aim to more accurately reflect the somber, visceral atmosphere of George R.R. Martin’s original universe, thereby deepening player immersion.
Simultaneously, development is progressing on a dynamic weapon-switching system. Changing weapons during an encounter will activate a dedicated skill set with its own slots and cooldown timers. According to the developers, the implementation of this system will vastly increase the variety of tactical abilities available to players.
Regarding new content, a cooperative PvE mode set within the haunting ruins of Harrenhal has been announced. This mode will focus on team-based strategy and tactical coordination, completely omitting PvP elements. Detailed information regarding the mechanics and structure of this mode is expected to be released in the future.
Furthermore, 2026 will see the release of the game’s fourth narrative chapter. The new story arc begins with the protagonist’s imprisonment at Casterly Rock under the dominion of House Lannister, serving as a catalyst for emerging conflicts and intricate plot branches.
To bolster the in-game economy, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will introduce a comprehensive marketplace. This system will allow players to trade resources and materials, facilitating a more streamlined path for character progression and gear acquisition.
In January, the world difficulty will expand with the introduction of “Hedge Knight III,” which requires 280,000 Momentum to unlock. Facing this increased challenge will reward players with significantly higher drop rates for legendary equipment and rare crafting components.
In closing, the developers extended their warmest holiday wishes to the community, reaffirming their commitment to evolving the game through consistent communication and player feedback.
