Skyrim Lead: Bethesda Should Learn from Baldur’s Gate 3 to Make The Elder Scrolls 6 More Meaningful

  • “The current focus often feels like just ‘putting your toys away,’ but in these types of games, your actions should have ripples,” Nesmith continued. “For instance, doing something in the Thieves Guild questline should fundamentally change the trajectory of the Mages Guild. The world should evolve because of your presence. It needs to feel real.”

Although Nesmith is no longer part of the Bethesda team, he remains passionate about the creative “spark” that Baldur’s Gate 3 ignited in the community.

“If I were still in a decision-making role, that’s exactly where I would look,” he concluded. “The gaming community has clearly signaled that they want experiences where their actions carry weight on a broader scale, much like they do in Baldur’s Gate 3.”

While The Elder Scrolls has its own unique atmosphere and legacy that keeps fans coming back, it’s hard to argue against more robust decision-making. Hopefully, The Elder Scrolls 6 will strike a balance between its classic charm and the high-stakes agency that made Larian’s RPG such a phenomenon. Only time will tell, and unfortunately, we still have a long wait ahead of us.

Nesmith also recently shared that he believes Bethesda is wise to stick with its Creation Engine for The Elder Scrolls 6, citing Fallout 76 as a prime example of why transitioning to a new engine is “extremely difficult.”
