Six Minutes of Gameplay Revealed for The Defiant, China’s “Call of Duty Killer”

Activision may have a formidable new rival to keep an eye on.

Developer Haotang Technology and publisher 4Divinity have pulled back the curtain on the first comprehensive gameplay trailer for The Defiant, a gritty first-person shooter set in the Eastern theater of World War II.

The six-minute reveal offers an atmospheric look at the single-player campaign, following resistance fighters as they engage Japanese forces across snow-covered woodlands, treacherous mountain passes, and ravaged villages behind enemy lines. The developers characterize the project as a “cinematic yet authentic chronicle of sacrifice and heroism during wartime.”

A primary focus for the team is uncompromising historical accuracy. The Defiant showcases a meticulously recreated arsenal, including the Hanyang rifle, Mauser pistol, MP18 submachine gun, and other era-specific firearms deeply rooted in Chinese military history. According to the creators, every weapon model was built from the ground up, utilizing museum pieces and archival blueprints for maximum fidelity.

While a release date and confirmed platforms for The Defiant have yet to be announced, the game is already generating buzz as a potential “Call of Duty killer,” with many enthusiasts drawing parallels to the classic atmosphere of the Medal of Honor series.
