Production on the first two seasons of The Mighty Nein was handled simultaneously, and several upcoming episodes are already nearing completion.
The Critical Role team has revealed fresh insights into the future of The Mighty Nein, the animated series based on their acclaimed second Dungeons & Dragons campaign. By developing both seasons in tandem, the crew managed to effectively halve the standard production cycle. Executive producer Sam Riegel confirmed that work on the second installment is currently in full swing, with a portion of the episodes already finalized. Riegel expressed optimism that the new season will be ready for a 2026 premiere.
“We are in the thick of it every day—mixing audio, refining animation, and conducting ADR sessions. The current roadmap has everything slated for completion next year, and we fully expect the second season to debut then.”
Adding to the momentum, actress Ashley Johnson, who voices the character Yasha, recently mentioned that she has already recorded dialogue for the opening two episodes of the sophomore season.
This news follows the successful conclusion of The Mighty Nein’s first season, which aired its finale on December 22. The adaptation has arguably eclipsed the success of the studio’s first venture, The Legend of Vox Machina. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series currently holds a 100% critical approval rating and a 93% audience score, with viewers praising its darker, more mature narrative and nuanced character development.
Consequently, 2026 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Critical Role fans, as it may feature both the penultimate fourth season of The Legend of Vox Machina and the continuation of The Mighty Nein. However, the final release schedule remains under the discretion of Amazon, whose streaming priorities will ultimately dictate the launch dates.
