How SCS recorded Scania engine sounds at the Demo Centre

SCS Software’s 2023 visit to the Scania Demo Centre in Sodertalje, Sweden, was a reference-gathering trip for Euro Truck Simulator 2. The team recorded material from three Scania powertrains: a 560 hp Super inline-six, a 590 hp V8 and a 770 hp V8. The resulting SCS On The Road episode is a behind-the-scenes look at how access to real trucks supports the simulator’s vehicle research.

The 560 hp truck represented Scania’s Super inline-six range, while the two V8 vehicles provided 590 hp and 770 hp reference points. Recording several configurations matters because an engine family cannot be represented accurately by changing volume alone. The cadence, response and load-dependent character are part of what separates one truck configuration from another for the driver.

The official article presents the trip as research and does not promise a specific game update or release date for every recording. That distinction is important: field material still has to be selected, edited, mixed and implemented before it can become an in-game sound set. The episode therefore documents the source work, not a changelog entry.

SCS returned to the same facility in a separate 2024 project. According to the later official feature, the real Scania Demo Centre was established in 1995 and receives roughly 14,000 visitors a year. Its test area combines about three kilometres of asphalt roads, two kilometres of forest roads and three kilometres of gravel tracks, giving visitors controlled surfaces for demonstrating different vehicles and applications.

The centre was recreated at 1:1 scale for ETS2 update 1.50 as a special destination near Sodertalje. Access to that in-game location requires the Scandinavia map expansion. This later addition is connected to the same real-world partner and place, but it should not be confused with the February 2023 sound-recording story: one covers vehicle audio research, the other covers a mapped test facility.

The strongest takeaway is the research method. SCS did not rely only on specification sheets: it gained direct access to multiple working Scania trucks and the manufacturer’s demonstration facility. The original video and announcement remain the primary sources for the 2023 session; the 1.50 release notes provide the authoritative context for the centre’s later appearance in the game.
