After years of being a crashy ache within the arse, Saints Row 2 is lastly getting mounted as much as play properly on trendy PCs. Developers Volition introduced final evening that they’ve discovered the supply code to their cheery open-world homicide simulator after years of wanting, to allow them to give it much-needed love. 2008’s game is probably my favourite Saints Row, a wacky tackle GTA coming simply as GTA IV went all tediously self-serious, although in fact I recognise Saints Row four is the most effective superhero game. It’s a proper mess in the mean time, thoughts, needing a load of player-made fixes and mods to run even half-decently. Bring on the updates!
Volition defined on final evening’s stream that the PC supply code had been out of their arms as a result of the port was made by one other studio. They’ve been making an attempt to get the supply again for years and have now lastly bought in contact with somebody who labored on the port manner again when and was capable of get ahold of it in some mysterious manner. Now, hooray, Volition have given the go-ahead to repair it up.
Senior neighborhood developer Mike Watson defined, “The four main things that we’re working on are: performance; stability, fixing a lot of the crashing and issues; integrating Steam networking, so co-op will work again and multiplayer; and then also adding the DLC, which was console-only and now we’re putting the DLC for PC as well.”
The two DLC packs we didn’t see on PC are Ultor Exposed and Corporate Warfare, which collectively added new story missions, new co-op shenanigans, and extra character customisation bits.
Volition are at present centered on making a brand new Saints Row, a game which is an enigma for now, so this only a wee side-project for a two-man crew. It’s being labored on by Volition’s Mike Watson and contractor Thomas Jepp, who have been each notable Saints Row modders too.
No agency phrase but on when the fixes will probably be prepared however I’m delighted to listen to this.
