It’s time to change some entrenched gaming habits.
The creators of the popular survival game Rust have released a new development diary and outlined their intent to rethink the established meta. The team aims to pull players back into the open world, where authentic competition can arise.
Facepunch Studios rolled out an update for Rust that reworks progression: “our goal is to break old habits.” Several monuments have been updated with puzzle elements.
The developers refreshed locations that previously offered little or no loot, making them more relevant so that “raid-for-loot encounters feel fresher, at least for a while.”
The Level 1 workbench remains unchanged, but crafting Level 2 and 3 items now requires blueprint fragments. These fragments can be discovered at monuments.
A new item — the “spike trap” — has been added; it slows and wounds players who step on it.
