NVIDIA’s advanced toolsets are empowering enthusiasts to significantly revitalize the visual fidelity of their favorite classic games.

Recently, a modder going by the handle PPBWoodBoy showcased a demo for an enhanced version of Quake 3 Arena. The primary highlight of this project is the integration of full path tracing into the legendary shooter.

The developer utilized the NVIDIA RTX Remix 1.2.4 toolkit to achieve these results, alongside Quake3e, imgupscaler.ai, and Photopea for asset refinement.

The modder integrated modern PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials into Quake 3 Arena, allowing surfaces to interact realistically with the new lighting system while meticulously preserving the original high-speed gameplay mechanics.

PPBWoodBoy has made the project available through ModDB and GitHub via the “q3-rtx-demoPublic” repository. It is important to note that this modification is currently designed for single-player experiences.
