Nia DaCosta is confident she possesses the creative vision necessary to translate Robert Kirkman’s sprawling universe into a major motion picture.
Director Nia DaCosta, best known for her work on “The Marvels,” has expressed a keen interest in helming a live-action feature film adaptation of “Invincible.” She shared her ambitions during a Sony Pictures Q&A session when asked about established franchises she would be eager to develop in the future.
DaCosta noted her deep appreciation for both the original comic book run and the acclaimed animated series. The director emphasized that she has a clear conceptualization of how to transition the world and its central themes into a live-action format. Specifically, she highlighted the story’s gritty, mature tone as a major draw, noting its rarity within the modern superhero genre.
Created by Robert Kirkman, the original “Invincible” comics follow the journey of teenager Mark Grayson, who navigates the challenges of becoming a hero under the tutelage of his father. While the animated adaptation is already three seasons deep—with a fourth set to premiere in March 2026—the prospect of a live-action iteration remains a hot topic among fans.
Speculation regarding a full-length “Invincible” movie has circulated for years; as far back as 2017, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were reportedly attached to a live-action project. However, despite the initial excitement, the film has yet to officially enter the production phase.
