Nintendo and its partners have struggled with large-scale leaks before. The 2020 “Gigaleak” exposed source code for legacy titles and prompted tighter security measures, while 2022’s early copies and retailer-related breaches led to widespread leaks of Scarlet and Violet. Some investigators suggest aspects of this latest leak may trace back to an October 2024 incident — the so-called “Teraleak” — which Game Freak publicly acknowledged and which included employee data.

Online speculation indicates the cache might also contain materials related to Legends: Z-A and the Generation 10 entries expected in 2026, with leakers reportedly holding back information about future projects until it would have greater relevance. If that timeline is accurate, similar disclosures could surface again as the franchise approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A stirs my inner shiny hunter’s cautious optimism, but I hope the RPG avoids repeating Scarlet and Violet’s most significant mistakes.
