Players Believe Activision Is Protecting “Christmas Noobs” in Black Ops 7

A Treyarch developer insists that recent community rumors are entirely baseless.

Within the Call of Duty community, a theory has gained traction suggesting that skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) was covertly intensified over the holiday season to safeguard “Christmas noobs.” These newcomers, who typically receive the game as a gift, often struggle against seasoned veterans who have been refining their skills since launch.

However, Treyarch’s Design Director, Matt Scronce, has flatly denied these claims. He clarified that the matchmaking system remained untouched and that no special protocols were implemented to protect inexperienced players during the festivities.

While “stomping Christmas noobs” has long been a staple meme among the player base, such lopsided encounters have become increasingly rare since the introduction of stricter SBMM in 2019. Modern matchmaking algorithms are designed to segregate beginners from high-level enthusiasts, making the traditional holiday “pub-stomp” a thing of the past.
