Jagex has confirmed that the long-awaited Sailing update will launch on November 19, 2025.
More than two years ago, the studio ran a player vote to choose Old School RuneScape’s first new skill in over a decade. After weeks of polling, sailing beat out taming and shamanism. Since then, the development team has been building the skill — including Alpha and Beta tests earlier this year that let players try sailing firsthand.
Jagex frames the Sailing update as close to a full expansion: it opens the seas and increases the playable map by about 190%. Alongside the sailing skill, players will encounter shipwreck salvaging, new NPCs, and fresh questlines tied to seafaring content.
And yes — expect to chart new routes across the high seas while bellowing Sea Shanty 2 from whatever in-game stereo your ship provides.
