More Diablo projects will be announced in “the coming year”

November 30, 2018 News on the other Diablo projects will be revealed over “the coming year.”

Diablo 4 is all but certain. The awkward announcement of Diablo Immortal at this year’s BlizzCon may have shaken some fans’ belief that a proper new entry in the series is forthcoming, but Blizzard keeps reiterating the ‘stay tuned’ message. Now there’s a very rough time frame for some kind of announcement.

“We have many plans for Diablo across multiple projects which we’ll be revealing over the course of the coming year,” a Blizzard rep says on the official forums. “We are eager to share more about all of our projects, but some will have to wait as we prefer to show you, rather than tell you, about them.”

That’s not fundamentally different from anything Blizzard has said in the past year, as the company has kept touting the ‘multiple projects’ line in the vain hope of managing expectations. The only difference in this Battle.net post is that it puts a timeline on a proper announcement – one that’ll certainly leave Diablo fans ticking off the next 365 days one by one.

Kotaku reported shortly after BlizzCon that the Blizzard had recorded a video with co-founder Allen Adham, in which he would confirm that Diablo 4 was in development but not yet ready for a public showing.

It was initially reported that this video was scheduled to be shown at BlizzCon, but Blizzard disputes that. “We generally don’t comment on rumors or speculation,” a spokesperson said, “but we can say that we didn’t pull any announcements from BlizzCon this year or have plans for other announcements.”

One of Kotaku’s sources said that Diablo 4 has “changed drastically” since entering development nearly half-a-decade ago, and it could still be in store for further changes. That’s likely why Blizzard is so skittish about showing off the game.

We can’t add Diablo 4 to our list of upcoming PC games just yet, but the upcoming launch of the Median XL mod’s massive Sigma update should bring a bit of joy to Diablo 2 fans early next year. They’ve still got plenty of time to kill.
