Capcom’s commitment to refining Monster Hunter Wilds has finally come to fruition, with Title Update 4 marking a significant turning point for the game’s technical performance.
Players utilizing entry-level hardware, such as the 8GB RTX 4060, have seen frame rate improvements of approximately 20% in the most taxing environments compared to the launch version. Digital Foundry’s latest analysis highlights this progress at the six-minute mark of their technical breakdown, noting a substantial leap even when compared to the incremental improvements of Title Update 3.
To achieve these gains on 8GB VRAM cards, certain trade-offs were made, including more visible asset pop-in. However, texture quality on “Medium” settings has seen a noticeable boost. While Digital Foundry observed that texture resolution in specific instances is slightly lower than in the third update, the compromise is deemed necessary to eliminate the micro-stuttering previously caused by video memory saturation.
Capcom has confirmed that the optimization process is far from over. A scheduled update in January aims to further enhance CPU and GPU performance while reducing overall VRAM overhead and improving high-quality texture streaming. This will be followed by a February patch designed to alleviate GPU strain through the implementation of more efficient Level of Detail (LOD) systems.
