Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, including Taylor Swift and Machine Gun Kelly, will forever remember the team’s stinging defeat in Super Bowl LIX.
In February, Swift attended to back her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, while MGK was on hand to root for Kansas City before headlining the postgame celebration. Early optimism for a historic three-peat quickly evaporated as Philadelphia surged ahead, ultimately prevailing 40–22.
“I was in Travis’s suite, and at kickoff Taylor shouted, ‘This is going to be epic—can’t wait to see you perform tonight,’” MGK recalled. “I was buzzing, picturing an unforgettable evening.”
“By the third quarter, I kept glancing at the scoreboard,” he laughed. “I nudged Taylor and teased, ‘Looks like tonight’s not ours.’ She shrugged, ‘I’ll try to coax Travis out, but I’m not making any promises.’”
Despite the loss, MGK honored his commitment to perform at the New Orleans afterparty — an experience he advises fellow artists to avoid. “Never book that gig,” he quipped. “Sign the contract late, maybe around the third quarter once the outcome’s clear.”
Still, MGK remains a staunch supporter of Kelce — a fellow Ohioan. “He’s my guy,” the artist said. “Cleveland bred, same region as me.”
On August 8th, MGK released his new album, Lost Americana, enlisting Bob Dylan to champion the roots-inspired project — a distinct departure from the hip-hop and pop-punk terrain he once explored.
Meanwhile, Kelce and the Chiefs are back in training for their September season opener. Having become a regular at Arrowhead Stadium since her romance with the tight end began in 2023, Swift is poised to attend even more games now that her global Eras Tour has concluded.
