The director highlighted how this blank-slate approach allowed them to evaluate their strengths and decide which legacy elements were worth keeping and which were better left behind. “It offered us a fresh perspective on the structures we’ve built over the years. By returning to our core principles, we were able to reassess our past work thoroughly. That wealth of experience and knowledge will undoubtedly serve us well in our future endeavors.”

Hashino also touched upon Studio Zero’s ambition to redefine the genre, aiming for what he describes as “JRPG 3.0.” He hopes his next title will serve as a definitive example of this new evolutionary stage. While fans are already clamoring for more, a direct sequel to Metaphor: ReFantazio might not be imminent. Hashino clarified that the team is focused on quality over speed, stating they want to ensure any potential continuation genuinely builds upon the original’s core values and provides a meaningful experience for the audience.

Additionally, addressing a popular fan theory that attempts to link Metaphor: ReFantazio to the modern Persona timeline and Catherine, Hashino admitted that while the connections are compelling, they were completely unintentional. “I didn’t plan for those links at all,” he noted with a smile.
