Lords of the Fallen 2 Developer Compares Sequel’s Evolution to the Batman: Arkham Series

  • With Lords of the Fallen 2—the follow-up to the 2023 reboot—Lowe emphasizes a more tactile and impactful experience. “We want players to feel the sheer weight behind every strike, ensuring there’s a true sense of power when they swing their blade.”

This evolution also applies to character builds. Lowe suggests that Lords of the Fallen 2 will lean into unique identity with “innovative classes that haven’t yet been explored in the Soulslike genre.”

“This creates a foundation for continuous improvement,” he adds. “The more our community engages with the ‘DNA’ of our combat and experiments with these systems, the more we can sharpen and perfect the experience.”

Creative strategist Ryan Hill points toward dual-wielding as a primary area of mechanical distinction. “In many FromSoftware games, I’m often too paralyzed with fear to ever lower my shield,” he admits. However, Lords of the Fallen 2 is being designed to foster “player confidence” through aggressive offense. Hill notes that after a few hours of play, he found himself abandoning the shield entirely, favoring dashes and high-intensity attacks. The game didn’t necessarily feel easier, but the flow felt fundamentally different.

Lowe cautions, however, that aggression requires discipline: “Over-extending your combos will deplete your stamina, leaving you vulnerable to severe punishment.”

The dual-wielding system in the sequel features bespoke move sets rather than mirrored animations. Lowe describes this as a “flamboyant edge” intended to provide a constant “dopamine hit” during encounters.

This focus on variety is a direct response to community feedback. CI Games acknowledges that in the previous title, some players felt there wasn’t enough distinction between different weapon categories. For the sequel, the developers are promising greater individuality and flair—precisely what the franchise needs to truly stand out. After a rigorous cycle of post-launch updates for the first game, it’s promising to see the studio doubling down on these ambitious design shifts.
