There should be more games in the vein of Love and Deepspace and Infinity Nikki.
Infold Games, the international arm of the Chinese publisher Papergames, says there is a substantial unmet demand within the AAA market for non-violent titles. The company made this claim in an interview with Video Games Chronicle, pointing to the commercial success of the romance simulator Love and Deepspace and the dress-up adventure Infinity Nikki as supporting evidence.
Our experience with Love and Deepspace and Infinity Nikki shows that emotionally rich, non‑violent games can capture a broad Western audience and find commercial success. Where such hits were once mainly associated with indie developers, large-scale titles are now breaking into mainstream popularity. The market is far from saturated — demand for well-crafted, cozy experiences is enormous.
Love and Deepspace, which launched in early 2024, has drawn more than 70 million players worldwide. The romance-driven, emotionally focused title has repeatedly topped the free and top-grossing app charts in the U.S. and other markets. Downloads of the fashionable, stylish Infinity Nikki quickly surpassed the 20 million mark.
