Let’s Be Realistic: The PS6 Is Unlikely to Reach the Level of the RTX 5090 — the “Moore’s Law Is Dead” Channel

In August the first unofficial specifications for the PlayStation 6 surfaced, and comparisons between its performance and the RTX 5090 began circulating.

Authors of the Moore’s Law is Dead channel have cooled the fan-fueled expectations they helped create by publishing side-by-side analyses of the PS6 APU and the RTX 5090. In a recent video they clarify that anticipating real-world performance on par with that graphics card is unrealistic—especially given the console’s modest power draw (160 W).

According to their assessment, PS6 could deliver up to a threefold improvement in classic rasterization compared to the PS5. Insider projections, however, are often overstated, so the practical gain may be closer to two times. The outlook for ray tracing is considerably better, with estimated gains in the 6–12× range.

Moore’s Law is Dead argues that PS6’s rasterization performance will likely be about half that of the RTX 5090 and marginally weaker than the RTX 5080.

«APU Orion falls well short of the RTX 5090. It’s roughly half the rasterization performance. (…) Without ray tracing, PS6 will be weaker even than the RTX 5080», said the channel’s presenter.
