Following the recent buzz surrounding AI, fans of Larian Studios—the visionaries behind Baldur’s Gate 3—have found fresh reason to be optimistic about the next Divinity installment. Studio head Swen Vincke has confirmed that script development is now in an advanced stage.
Most of the companions who will join the player’s party have not only been fully conceptualized but have already been assigned to specific actors. The developers are eager to replicate the success of their previous title, where deeply written companions served as the cornerstone of the entire adventure.
However, the fact that roles have been cast does not mean the characters’ designs are finalized. According to Vincke, the creative process remains highly flexible, mirroring the approach used during the development of Baldur’s Gate. Actors exert a significant influence on the final portrayal of their characters; it is not uncommon for their unique personalities or acting styles to prompt writers to overhaul scripts to better align the hero with the performer.
Romance will also feature prominently in the new Divinity. The studio has once again enlisted professional intimacy coordinators to ensure the comfort of actors during the recording of more provocative sequences. While Vincke refrained from sharing specific details, he noted that some relationships within the game would be “exceptionally intimate,” hinting at the inclusion of mature and profound emotional bonds.
