Kane Brown & Blackbear Pair on Pop Track ‘Memory’

Following collaborations with such non-country artists as Becky G and Camila Cabello, country superstar Kane Brown’s newest duet is with pop producer/songwriter Blackbear.

“Memory” goes to digital service providers and pop radio July 9 and will be worked by RCA’s pop promotion division. Brown’s label, RCA Nashville, has partnered with RCA New York previously on such Brown pop hits as “One Thing Right” with Marshmello and “Be Like That” with Khalid and Swae Lee. RCA will officially go for radio adds July 12.

Brown and Blackbear (under his real name Matthew Musto) wrote the song with Andrew Goldstein, Joe Kirkland and Ernest Smith. The sauntering midtempo track features Brown first speaking and then singing about living life at top speed and escaping from any pain, concerned that he’s running on empty and proclaiming “I don’t want to be a memory,” before blackbear takes over similarly expressing the need to find a way to manage the crazy train.

Brown began teasing the collaboration on his Instagram two days ago when he cryptically posted a photo of two men in spacesuits with the date 7/9/21. The cover art premieres above.

Blackbear has worked with a diverse range of artists including Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Linkin Park, Nick Jonas, G-Eazy, and, more recently, Maroon 5, for whom he co-wrote and produced “Beautiful Mistakes,” the band’s hit with Megan Thee Stallion.

Brown’s country pairing with Chris Young on “Famous Friends,” is No. 3 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart for the week ending July 3.
