Guatemala Congress Faces Criticism for Barring Swedish Metal Band Marduk

Guatemalan lawmakers are going through criticism after they moved to dam a Swedish darkish steel band from coming into the nation, calling it “satanic.”

The congressional decree banning anybody concerned with the group often known as Marduk was accredited Wednesday by an 87 to 13 vote.

Independent lawmaker Oliverio Rodas mentioned the band’s music is offensive to “the morality of the Christian people of Guatemala.”

But opposition lawmaker Eva Monte Bac argued that the ban violates the structure and accused colleagues of being “hypocrites.” She requested why not ban reggaeton music with misogynist lyrics or narco-ballads that glorify drug traffickers.

According to the band’s web site, it was based in 1990 with the goal of “creating the most brutal and blasphemous metal act ever.” It was presupposed to carry out in Guatemala on Oct. 11.
