The removal and/or replacement of songs in Grand Theft Auto has been a saddening occurrence for fans, though it’s nothing new. This has happened before with GTA IV, the reissued “Trilogy”, and other installments as well. Yesterday, user TJGM pointed out that at some point from last summer to now, a track that played on K-Rose radio station in the original GTA: San Andreas, “One Step Forward” by Desert Rose Band, has been removed. The related file is now empty.
This concerns the RGL version – updates continue to be released only for it. In other platforms such as Steam or PlayStation, there are no changes since Rockstar no longer updates the now-delisted game. However, it’s possible this could also affect the Definitive Edition. The reason behind these removals is straightforward – the expiration of licensing agreements. This autumn marks the 20th anniversary of GTA: SA, and perhaps more songs will be removed by then. It’s curious to wonder how many will ultimately remain. “One step forward and two steps back, this kind of dance can never last.” What more is there to say?
