A little over seven months ago, the debut show of GTA 6 took place, which instantly set several records. Today, the trailer has reached a staggering 200 million views. Moreover, it has received over 11.5 million likes and 885 thousand comments.
According to Viewstats, the earnings from the ninety-second clip amount to $1,000,000 as of today. Of course, this is a very rough estimate, likely disconnected from reality, derived solely from algorithmic metrics. It’s also important to note that monetization for this content is disabled (viewers don’t see ads before or after), but the creators still earn from views by subscribed users.
However, Rockstar Games has probably earned much more from the trailer. YouTube itself may have paid the million (or however much) to host the first showing on their video platform, providing a unique link (yt.be/trailer1) and planning the premiere, which led to an early leak. The video was uploaded to the social network X (formerly Twitter), positioning itself as a competitor to YouTube (though it is not), 7 hours and 25 minutes later. Even on the official Rockstar Games website, the video is embedded from YT, despite the developers having their own video player that showcases videos in much better quality.
