Arcade fighter Soulcalibur 6 is out now, that includes Geralt from the Witcher collection

That's Maxi whacking Kilik in the back of the head, not Geralt

As a shameless button-masher, I’m so glad to see this collection return, and with its newest iteration – Soulcalibur 6 – touchdown on PC for the primary time ever. Bandai Namco’s different long-running preventing collection that isn’t Tekken, Soulcalibur is about swords (and different melee weapons), ring outs and common strikes that may do huge injury. This one debuts with a decent 19 returning fighters, two newcomers and (as visitor character) everybody’s favorite grouchy monster-botherer, Geralt, becoming a member of the get together in a thematically becoming crossover. Below, the launch trailer.

While different fighters are packed to the gills with esoteric methods and combo mechanics, Soulcalibur has at all times simply made instinctive sense to me. Simple digital motion and 4 buttons – Vertical, Horizontal and Kick assaults plus Guard – and that’s all it’s worthwhile to know. Tap ahead and vertical for a lunging stab generally, or again and horizontal for a large retreating slash. While others spend weeks memorising huge Dragon Ball FighterZ combo strings, I mastered the sword. Okay, I’m nonetheless garbage at Soulcalibur, however higher than at most preventing games.

Soulcalibur 6’s solid is generally taken from the primary two games, plus a pair contemporary faces. Among the newbies are Grøh (an anime cliche elemental), Azwel (a sword-summoning wizard) and the eternally grumpy Geralt of Rivia. He’s launched as a part of a secondary story mode, the place characters all through time and area have been pulled into Soulcalibur’s world by magic portals, and we all know how Geralt feels about those – he feels a superb match for the game. There’s a personality creator too, which Brendy has been using to create horny lizards, for science.

There is a season cross for Soulcalibur 6, but it surely seems to be to be a remarkably slight bundle. Just 4 characters (one confirmed as returning hula-hoop assassin Tira), plus a skip-full of dress-up objects to both mangle the present character designs, or create your personal abominations. Unless you propose on making Tira your one and solely match-winner, I reckon you’d be greatest sticking to the common version of the game till the enlargement drops in worth.

Soulcalibur 6 is out now on Steam and Humble for £50/€60/$60, or £75/€90/$90 for the Deluxe Edition with season cross.
