French-Armenian singer and actor Charles Aznavour has died, France’s Minister of Culture Françoise Nyssen announced at this time (October 1). He was 94. A reason behind dying was not revealed. He died at his residence in Alpilles in southeastern France, in keeping with the AFP.
Aznavour was born Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian to Armenian dad and mom in Paris in 1924. His dad and mom have been performers, and he left faculty at a younger age to pursue performing. Aznavour’s first break got here in 1946 when Édith Piaf discovered him after which invited him on a U.S. tour. In his eight-decade profession, Aznavour launched albums in French, English, Spanish, Italian, and German, promoting over 180 million data alongside the way in which. His household is said to have hid Jews, communists, and people persecuted by the Nazis of their Paris residence in the course of the conflict. In October 2017, Aznavour and his sister Aida have been introduced the Raoul Wallenberg Award for his or her conflict efforts.
French president Emmanuel Macron posted a tribute to Aznavour on Twitter, as NPR notes. “Profoundly French, viscerally attached to his Armenian roots, known across the world, Charles Aznavour has accompanied the joys and pains of three generations,” Macron wrote in French. “His masterpieces, his timbre, his unique radiance will survive him for a long time.”
